Íslensk stjórnvöld gagnrýnd fyrir að senda Brynjar á fund í stað ráðherra

Namibísk sendi­nefnd sem var hér á landi í júní óskaði ekki eftir fundi í dóms­mála­ráðu­neyt­inu, heldur var hún send þangað að beiðni for­sæt­is­ráð­herra. Aðstoð­ar­maður dóms­mála­ráð­herra sat hins vegar fund­inn og neitar að hafa gert athuga­semdir við að namibíski rík­is­sak­sókn­ar­inn vís­aði til Sam­herj­a­manna sem „sak­born­inga“ í máli sínu, eins og heim­ildir Stund­ar­innar herma. Sendi­nefndin namibíska taldi fund­inn tíma­sóun.

Brynjar Níelsson, aðstoð­ar­maður Jóns Gunn­ars­sonar dóms­mála­ráð­herra, gerði sam­kvæmt heim­ildum Stund­ar­innar athuga­semdir við að namibíski rík­is­sak­sókn­ar­inn, Martha Imalwa, vís­aði til Sam­herj­a­manna sem sak­born­inga – eða sem „accused“ upp á ensku, á fundi sem hald­inn var í íslenska dóms­mála­ráðu­neyt­inu þann 7. júní síð­ast­lið­inn. Þessi athuga­semd Brynjars mun hafa valdið nokk­urri furðu hjá rík­is­sak­sókn­ar­anum namibíska og fylgd­ar­liði hans, sem hafi gefið það sterkt til kynna eftir fund­inn að þau hefðu talið hann til­gangs­lausan og lítið þótt til við­mæl­enda sinna koma.

Athuga­semd Brynjars, sem að sögn var gerð snemma á fund­inum, þótti Namib­íu­mönnum sér­kenni­leg, enda liggur fyrir að fjöldi Sam­herj­a­manna hefur rétt­ar­stöðu grun­aðra í rann­sókn hér á landi og í Namibíu.
